In my practice, layers of personal and collective memory often emerge as a starting point for my work. The necklace and earring series “Rožytės” is inspired by my childhood games, when we, girls, would twist rings from colorful electrical wires. This phenomenon was widespread not only in Lithuania but also in other countries of the former Soviet Union, revealing a distinctive childhood aesthetic of the Soviet period and a culture of everyday improvisation.
The series “Rožytės” is a bridge between the past and the present, emphasizing the importance of play as a form of creative expression and communal connection. In my artistic practice, I often combine personal experience with collective memory, which is why these works intertwine the absence of nostalgia as a position with a reflective and critical gaze on the cultural legacy of the Soviet era. Through these pieces, I not only reconstruct the aesthetics of childhood games but also raise questions about the influence of the past on contemporary identity and creative choices.
